Going on an adventure with your four-legged friend is always a treat to enjoy, as long as you are well prepared and have what you need! As we near the holidays and look forward to another year ahead, keep in mind that a little preparation goes a long way to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip for both you and your pet.
Preparing for travel can oftentimes be overwhelming. Worry no more! Below, we have compiled a simple, handy guide to make your travel experience with your dog or cat a breeze:
Preparing for the trip
Aside from packing your pet's belongings, a lot of the pre-work is mental. Here are 5 tips to prepare yourself and your pet mentally and physically:

1. Crate training
Days or weeks before you buckle up, make sure your pet can feel comfortable inside a crate. Familiarize them with the crate at home so they get to know the crate as a good place. Traveling in a crate provides safety, reduces stress, and gives your pet their own special den on the go. If your pet isn't crate trained, we're here to help make the training process a walk in the park!

2. Pre-Trip Exercise
Prior to hitting the road, engage your dog in some active exercises. A tired pet is more likely to relax during the journey, making it a smoother ride for everyone inside the car.
3. Potty Breaks First
Avoid accidents inside the car by scheduling regular potty breaks before and during your trip. A quick stretch and bathroom break not only keep your pet comfortable but also ensure a mess-free adventure.

4. Skip the Snacking
To prevent car sickness, hold off on the meals right before travel. Your pet's tummy will thank you, and you'll avoid any unexpected pit stops for cleanup.
5. Are you pet-friendly?
Confirm that your accommodation is pet-friendly before booking. If not, don't worry! Your beloved furball can enjoy a cozy stay with us at Sit and Stay. Message us on Instagram or Facebook to book in advance.
What to bring?
The final task! What do you need to pack for travel? Below is a list of essentials, as well as some nice to haves for fun and enjoyable times with your pet:
1. Food
Pack your pet's daily food in pre-measured portions or bring a handy measuring cup for accuracy.
2. Supplements/Vitamins (if any)
If your pet takes vitamins or supplements, toss them into your travel bag. Keeping their routine intact ensures a healthy journey.
3. Treats (if any)
Reward your pet's good behavior on the road with tasty, healthy treats. It's a win-win for both of you! 4. Water jug and bowl
A portable water jug for both you and your pet ensures that your pet is well-hydrated whenever adventure calls. (We sell bottles and bowls in-store too! Check out our 32oz Porta bottles, Ollie bowls, and collapsible bowls during your next visit to La Union.)
5. Food bowl Don't forget your pet's food bowl! Some establishments might not have one ready for your pet's meals. (Note that we have bowls at Sit and Stay but feel free to bring your own too!) 6. Medicine (if any)
If your pet is currently on medication for minor injuries or illnesses, make sure to bring them with you! Best to check with your vet too so that your pet is cleared for travel.
7. Leash, Collar, Harness
Never leave home without a sturdy leash and collar. These are your trusty tools for safe and controlled adventures, especially when there are other pets or animals nearby.
8. Poop Bag
Please clean up after your pet, so we can all continue to enjoy pet-friendly places! Reusable poop bags are a plus.
9. Anti-tick and Flea sprays
Keep those pesky parasites at bay with a reliable anti-tick and flea spray or solution. Prevention is always key! 10. Cleaning wipes, towels, and sprays Messes can happen, so ready a towel and spray for quick cleanups. Keep your pet and accommodation mess-free!
11. Diaper and/or belly band
For mall trips and other indoor escapades, a diaper or belly band may be required. Reusable ones are stylish and help save the environment too! (We sell these in-store too. Grab a fashionable pack of Furribuddies diapers and belly bands on your next trip to La Union.)
12. Carabiner
Here's a hack! A carabiner is a handy tool for securing your pet during pit stops or when you need a moment, hands-free. Don't forget to keep an eye on your pet even when s/he is tethered!
13. Vaccination Records
Most importantly, don't leave home without your pet's updated vaccination records or a health certificate from the vet. It's the passport to a lot of establishments including pet hotels such as Sit and Stay.

And we're done! Hopefully these points have made it easier for you to prepare for your next pawventure to La Union, or other pet-friendly places in the Philippines.
Happy travels from Sit and Stay!
